At first glance, one may find that the Realme Buds Wireless 2 looks very similar to its predecessor, Realme Buds Wireless. The new wireless neckband earphone comes in Yellow and Grey colour options. The unit we received was a yellow colour variant and looked very much like the Realme Buds Wireless ( and Realme Buds Wireless Pro for that matter). It features a contemporary neckband style design. The body, essentially, is divided into two parts -- the flexible neckband and plastic-made end that house the control buttons. These are connected to the earbuds via rubber-coated wires.

The neckband is lightweight (29 grams) and sits comfortably on the collar. You will not feel any sort of discomfort on your neck even after long usage. Talking about the build quality, the neckband feels sturdy and durable.

The earbuds feature the angular design that we saw on the Realme Buds Wireless Pro. This offers a better fit into the ears. Each earbud houses a magnet inside. This takes care of two things- one is that the earbuds do not get entangled and two they can automatically turn on/off thanks to the Magnet Fast Pair technology. Also, the earbuds can connect to the last paired device automatically when separated.

Coming to the placement of control buttons, they are located on the right side of the neckband. There is a single slap offering volume control buttons and a multi-function button placed between. This multi-function button can be used to play/pause music, answer/hangup calls, skip songs and wake the voice assistant. Below is the ANC button. The placement of the buttons is precise. They are easy to access and offer decent feedback as well.

Realme Buds Wireless 2 comes with a USB Type-C charging port which is a good and desirable upgrade. The port is placed on the left side only. The right side of the neckband is clean with the Realme branding

Realme Buds Wireless 2: Performance

Realme Buds Wireless 2 comes powered by R2 chipset. A key highlight of the neckband earphones is the active noise cancellation feature. Realme says that the earphone can offer noise reduction up to 25dB. We will talk about it in a bit.

Pairing the device is easy. Thanks to the Google Fast Pair feature, the earbuds come in pairing mode as soon as you detach them. The earphone connects with devices over Bluetooth 5.0. Realme says that the Buds Wireless 2 has a connectivity range of 10 meters. While using it, we did not face any drops in music or call either when in the 10-meter range. But it tends to fade away and break when the range limit is breached.

The earphone has a latency of 88ms which ensures that there is no sound delay when you are watching videos. Realme Buds Wireless 2 is equipped with a 13.6mm Bass boost driver unit. And as we expected the audio output was tilted towards higher bass. Given the price category and the target audience, this is not bad or something to complain about. The earphone comes with support for Sony LDAC, AAC and SBC audio codecs. Not many in this price range offer Sony LDAC code support.

The earphones can be paired with the Realme Link app that offers more controls to users. For example, you can switch to Game mode to enter low-latency mode. The app also offers one to choose from different Noise control modes, sound effects and has three preset equalizers as well. Another feature that we liked about the earphones is the Multi Device Switch. This enables one to switch between different connected devices with a double-click on the ANC button.

Coming to the sound quality, it is bass-heavy as we mentioned before. The earphone offers a satisfactory audio quality while listening to music or watching videos. Vocals are clear and crisp. It can be a good companion to binge-watch movies and shows. Because a) the clarity in audio, and b) it does not hurt your ears even when worn for long periods. The synchronisation between the earbuds is decent and will give no reason to disappoint you.

Realme Buds Wireless 2 offer ANC feature with a transparency mode. You can turn on the noise cancellation mode by clicking the ANC button available on the right side. The feature blocks out external noise to some extent. It can filter out low decibel sounds coming from say a ceiling fan or AC in your room. However, you can still hear loud noises like TV or ones coming from the kitchen. Realme has also added Vocplus AI Noise cancellation for calls to the buds Wireless 2. The feature does an average job and helps eliminate background noise during calls to a great extent. The earphone comes with an IPX5 rating and can be worn during workouts.

Realme Buds Wireless 2: Battery

As we said before, Realme Buds Wireless 2 comes with a USB Type-C charging port. It takes about an hour to charge completely. Realme says that it can deliver up to 22 hours of battery on a single charge. During our review period, the wireless neckband easily lasted a week with an average use of 2 hours daily. The earphone also offers quick charge support and can deliver up to 17 hours battery.

Verdict

Realme Buds Wireless 2 carry a price tag of Rs 1,499. At this price tag, the earphone packs a host of features like ANC, LDAC support and IPX5 rating. This is paired with a decent battery with a sturdy yet lightweight design. Audio quality is bass-heavy which will attract many. Overall, the Realme Buds Wireless 2 is a reasonably good pair of earphones that is worth its price.
